Abstract

Introduction: Pain is defined as a sensitive and emotional experience associated with actual or potential
tissue damage or the description of such damage. It is a frequent cause of active search for medical care, with negative
impact on daily activities. Pain is chronic when it lasts longer than three months and its mechanism of action does not
require immediate injury to trigger the painful and continuous stimulus. Lack of training and myths can lead, for example,
to unreasonable fears of the adverse effects of medications. In this way, adequate information is essential for all health
professionals and patients involved in the treatment of chronic pain. Objectives: To promote a research on the prevalence
of available information on the pharmacological treatment of chronic pain for a general population. In addition, they
demonstrate a limitation of the data contained in the drug packages and an availability of access to the population to any
information. Methods: Bulls were searched for indications for the treatment of chronic pain. Four classes of drugs used in
the treatment of chronic pain were considered: anticonvulsants, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and selective
serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Results: Of the 62 drugs surveyed, 37 (59.68%) were available for free consultation, of
which 25 (40.33%) were unavailable. Of these 37 drugs available, 13 (35.14%) had a formal indication in the package
leaflet for the treatment of some type of chronic pain. Conclusion: There is an injury to the general population in the
knowledge of chronic pain conditions since the package inserts, for the most part, have data restriction or lack of
indications for the treatment of chronic pain. In addition, it is noted that a better approach to this topic is necessary for
health professionals and patients, especially with a view to better managed management.
