INTRODUCTION: The kidney injury in COVID-19 is not yet fully understood, but it is known that it is diverse and multifactorial. The largest studies conducted point to the prevalence of some risk factors associated with a greater propensity for the development of kidney injury. In addition, the importance of early assessment and detection of kidney injury has been discussed in this scenario, which would assist in predicting prognosis and, even, the clinical outcome during the treatment of virus infection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study is a literature review. The data presented comes from scientific articles published between the years 2019 and 2020. The search for scientific articles was carried out in the SCIELO, PUBMED databases. DISCUSSION: The study sought to highlight what is most relevant in the literature so far regarding kidney damage secondary to Coronavirus infection, bringing important topics for discussion such as its pathophysiology, risk factors, renal markers, recovery and mortality. CONCLUSION: As much as several articles have been published, it is still necessary to develop further studies that safely determine the pathophysiological mechanisms, the early detection of kidney injury and its specific management.
